From the artist:
“My work is about telling stories.” – Joel Kiser
As an artist, I am interested in the tradition of narrative—telling stories. Over the past ten years, my sculpture, performance and installation work has explored the archetypes of myth, fables and tall tales. Using found toys, tools, food and religious knickknacks, I reconfigure and reconceptualize domestic kitsch by casting vignettes that speak to my personal history and our collective consumer culture. The bronze and iron cast sculptures amplify and transfigure the objects into an exaggerated, darkly ironic weightiness that allows the viewer to engage in his/her own narrative interpretation.
